I went there for lunch last week. IMO, this is the best lunch buffet in town for now. I did not feel bloated like I do after eating the buffet at other Indian places. They have a lot of variety and the food is very spicy which is the way I like it. However, the best part is the restraint they use with oil/cream which kills the buffet for me in other Indian restaurants. They bring fresh dosa to the table which is an added attraction. I did not realize that I could ask for more dosas, or I would have made a meal out of just dosas. Overall, excellent for lunch buffet.

I have been to Mayuri several times for lunch buffets. Mayuri undoubtedly has one of the best Indian Buffet spreads in the US. According to me the food is definitely for an Indian Palette. People who are not introduced to spicy food may not enjoy, but it is worth a shot for the flavors in all food, terrific! They are priced around $12 and it is value for money. I felt the billing service could be little bit better, currently customers have to wrap everything up and pay before leaving the restaurant. It may be better for the servers to get the bill to the customers and get the payment done at the tables. All in all a great place to hog spicy Indian food, especially the South Indian cuisine is awesome. Slllurrrrppp!!

This used to be my favorite restaurant in the city, but a couple of months ago it started to deteriorate starting with the mango lassi. We just visited again and it is now called Mayuri. The (buffet) dishes overall are lacking the flavor that Ruchi once served, and even the naan was unappetizing. What a loss. They still have the best variety of Indian desserts though.

This is definitely a hot restaurant for South Indian food - particularly Andhra style! Our first time with their food was a takeout, and we loved the food. Especially the Egg Pakoda and chili Pakoda. I was also impressed with their Idlies, and Chole pooris. I didn't expect the chutneys to be as spicy as they were and it was definitely a welcome bonus for me. We hit their lunch buffet yesterday and as a South Indian I can very safely say that this was the best Indian buffet I have had in the US so far! I was amazed by the variety and the mix of both South and North Indian foods. We also got a small Masala Dosa to our table! The highlight of the buffet for me was the paruppu podi (dal powder, wtih ghee) - nostalgic! Taste wise, they were pretty good - I would say standard for any Indian restaurant. Four stars, as invariable Indian restaurants fall short on service. Will definitely go back when I visit St. Louis.

Rolled up to this restaurant located in a strip mall off of Olive. Looks like a franchise on the outside. It ends at the door. I imagine you probably couldn't get a more authentic meal in India itself. It was fairly crowded, mostly with Indian customers, which made me feel better about the place. We sat and our drink orders were taken, we decided for the buffet. Not sure if they have a menu. The staff scurried around very intent on taking good care of patrons. The buffet was quite large and had many selections and some I was not familiar with. I like that, I'm always up for something new. There was a big line for the chicken biryani so I made my way around to everything else before I was able to get some. I also had Tiki Masala, a fantastic goat curry, with mostly bones, mango Chutney and some Naan bread. They also had Mango Lassi and Masala Chai tea at the buffet. Both were very good. I gave it 3 stars, the food gets all of the credit. Food was excellent. I found out why there was a line for the chicken biryani, it was moist and the flavor of the chicken went through the entire dish. A great experience overall. I would recommend. I would ask the staff to clean it up a bit (the only complaint). Oh, yeah, it was only $25 with the Yelp discount. $1.00 off each buffet when you check in.

As most of my friends know I am very afraid to eat Indian food. The curry just ruins my stomach. I mentioned this to a friend in London. Ranjith, Googled the St. Louis area and said I should try Mayuri. His reason was this was southern Indian and not as spicy. I had read the reviews and it being spicy was in many reviews. So I did not go until today. I had the lunch buffet and I sampled, naan, chicken 65 , and goat, and bowl of vegetarian hot sour soup. The hot sour soup was really one of the better soups I have eaten. I don't know how you cook vegetables and not make them mush. The vegetables were crisp and full of taste. The chicken 65 scared me. I am thinking 65 is a high heat number on the spice scale. Yet it said it was moderate. It really was moderate and I enjoyed the chicken. The goat was amazing. Yes it was bit tough but it was the mildest goat I have ever eaten. If I did not know better it could have passed for beef stew meat. If you are a person who has never tried goat this would be the goat to try. The naan had a hint of garlic and I really liked taking the naan and getting all the sauce off my plate my soaking the naan in the sauces. I want to thank Ranjith one more time and let everyone know this is a quality place.

Was their recently with a friend. Had Chili Shrimp and Chicken Biryani. This place is by far the best Indian Restaurant I've been in St.Louis. I'm extremely pleased with my visit. Only disappointment is service was not so great. Waiter was not very attentive !

Visited Mayuri earlier this evening with some friends for dinner. The staff quickly greeted us and got us a table right away. I ordered the garlic naan bread with spicy chicken curry. The food arrived fairly quick and was very delicious. The food was hot and fresh. First the garlic naan. If you've never had them it's a MUST if you like garlic of course. The aroma, taste and the flavor were very very good. The spicy chicken curry wasn't all that spicy for me but it had a good kick to it. The portion size was pretty decent too. My friend ordered chicken pea curry with rice which looked and spelled great. He said the flavor was very good and he enjoyed it. (He really did, he ate ALL OF IT) without sharing :( I've heard their lunch buffet is cheap and really good. So I'll give that a try and then up my rating to 5. Oh and they do have dessert but we didn't have any room left.

Love this place! The food is always good. I've been 3x to India, of course this is not the same but it's close. I also like that every time I come here there are many Indians eating here. If you are lucky enough to be here on a day they have Chicken 65 it's a must try if you like spicy food!

The main steam table wasn't working and had cold food. So all the meat dishes were basically inedible. They seemed annoyed as opposed to appreciative that I let them know their food wasn't at correct temperature. I was nice about it too. No offer of apology or a discount on our meal. There are far too many other Indian places to eat at with better food. They also had only spinach and cabbage for veggies. The rest of the dishes were meat, which I did not want to get food poisoning from, and lots of soups.

Best Dosa's you will ever get in saint Louis Worst biryani its tasteless and made our ( me and my husband's ) stomach upset . Mango lassi is awesome "Lack of hygiene "

One of the more expansive Indian buffets in the area; large selection of food, although I was a bit upset there was no Chicken Tikka Masala or Chicken Curry on the buffet, at least not today. Their food is VERY spicy, even the stuff that says it's mild, but I like a kick in my Indian food; the Chili Fish was my favorite; the Aloo Pakora was the best I've had in town. I like that they set a pitcher of water on the table, as I usually go through several glasses with the spicy food. Free Mango Lassi with the buffet and soft serve ice cream for desert (chocolate only). This place is worth the drive...There is also a banquet room there if you come with a large group. In all the places I've tried in the StL/St Charles County area, I'd put them at #2 behind my favorite spot. Can't go wrong here its all good...Also a plus is they are about the only Indian buffet open on Monday.

The food is average.Frankly, I think it is too overpriced for the quality. I agree with the earlier comment about the highly racial setup. The staff here is very uncourteous. The orders are often forgotten. If not, it takes a long time to get the order. There are better indian restaurants in town. I would recommend people not to waste thier time with Mayuri.

Warning! This place is a SOUTH Indian restaurant. There is a huge difference between north indian food and south indian food. I went in for the lunch buffet, and boy did I make a huge mistake... The food looked gross and tasted gross, but I nevertheless decided to give it a fair shot and try it anyways. This is the worst Desi food I have ever had in my entire life. You can tell something is wrong when there is not a single white person in the restaurant. You can also tell something is wrong when there are no north indians or desis in the entire restaurant. I don't think this restaurant takes hygiene seriously including during the preparation of their meals. I, as well as my friend, felt sick after leaving the restaurant. I will never return but hope they maintain a cleaner atmosphere for their future customers. Please, enter this place at your own risk. You have been warned...

Ok you are in luck if you like spicy Indian food. Place provides many varieties of Indian cuisine from all over India. Pros Plenty of options. Cons Congested interiors May have to wait for some time for your turn. Some items in the buffet can get over and may take time to refill. Not many options for dessert Expensive as compared to other restaurants which offer buffets.

Had a very good experience here. Everything was very tasty, though a couple of dishes were kicked up more than we expected. The spinach chicken dish was exceptional. Will be back for that dish alone. The naans were all very good. The service was ok, could be a little warmer and engaging.

We use to go for Weekend buffet but recently food quality is going down and ambience is not welcoming any more. The only flavor we get from food is spicy hot chilli. I will not recommend this place if you do not like too much spicy.

Been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time. Came here for dinner, not the buffet and did not know what to order since it had been a while that we had been to an Indian Restaurant. Made a couple of choices and was very pleased with the the meals. Waiter was pleasant and explained to us that the buffets are usually only at lunchtime. Great location, decent atmoshphere although the chairs look like they could use a cleaning. Will definately, be back soon to try the buffet.

I ordered delivery. The food was pretty good once I received it, but delivery was almost right at 2 hours after I placed the order online. I do not recommend the delivery company that they use, but the chicken tikka masala was tasty. More sweet than spicy though, and based on reviews I expected the medium choice to be spicier than what I received.

Found this place by accident, tucked away in a strip mall. The food was just delicious. We had a spicy paneer appetizer, and I had the chicken tikka masala. The chicken was very lightly spicy, fragrant and delicious. Portions were plentiful, and prices reasonable. I will definitely be back.

These guys have a great lunch buffet! If you live in West County, they are the best (and only) Indian restaurant around. The price for lunch is moderate, expect to pay around $10. They are very authentic, and they have their buffet items clearly labelled, which is something that you don't always get at Indian restaurants. I have always been pleased here.

Ordered one mutton biryani and one veg biryani to go on Friday night around 10 ( they offer biryani till midnight on weekends). Mutton biryani was completely fine, but when it comes to the veg one, they packed just rice in it, no masala, no vegetables. I noticed this after I opened the package at my home, when I called them their excuse was " oh the biryani masala might be out, that's why they packed just rice, come by now we will make a new one". Who in the world will go back around 11 to get a replacement biryani. If they don't have veg biryani left, they should not sell it (instead of packing just rice)

Mayuri honored a two year old restaurant.com coupon, which was nice. We had never been here before and had it on our list. The coupon required $45 to be spent, so we ordered three dishes a soup and some bread. We had some minor difficulties communicating with our waiter. I ordered Chana Masala and Kadai Chicken to be mild and Chilli Shrimp to be medium. All were pretty hot, about 7-8 on my tolerance scale and certainly too hot for Ms T. We could not tell a difference between mild and medium, so are not sure what we really got, but they were listed right on the bill. The food was OK in general. I thought the channa were a little undercooked. Flavors were good. The Chilli Shrimp is from the Chinese page and was very sweet and rich. You certainly need to eat this with plenty of rice to mellow it. I'm pretty sure that south Indian is more their specialty which explains the heat levels. The Dal Soup was not particularly exciting, but I added rice to thicken it and some lemon juice and really enjoyed it. We ordered Masala Kulcha which was good and received some Butter Naan complimentary because we ordered three main dishes. All in all this is fine. We probably prefer North Indian or Gujarati styles a little better. I personally would return but it was definitely too hot for Mrs. Podunk. The menu is very large and I would like to explore it more. I think you need to be into the dosa thing. The place is a little the worse for wear which is surprising because it is not an old building. The hall to the restrooms and the restrooms themselves need some attention.

In my desperate search for Indian Restaurants in St. Louis, I stumbled upon Mayuri Indian restaurant. all through my stay in St.Louis I've just my lunches and dinners delivered from Mayuri by Tigerstakeout. The food was great in terms of quality as well as quantity. The prices are reasonable and the taste was authentic. Malai Kofta and Dal sabzi never tasted better. The vegetable biryani was one of the best biryanis i've had in my life. I was so impressed with the food that I did not even consider any other option. Great job ! keep up the good work. I highly recommend this restaurant to people who love Indian cuisine !

I like Indian food, and I am kind of up in the air about this place. For instance it was lunch time and it was not particularly crowded. The crazy thing is that they were out of tea? Its not like there is a grocery store right across the plaza?!?!? What I tried of the buffet was meh. The Channa masala was particulary bland. However the Mango Lassi sp? was delightful, and I loved the rich creamy dal, although it did have whole kidney beans in it providing a different texture. I did have difficulty in utilizing a yelp check in discount. I thought that was strange.

I found this to be the ultimate in quick-yet-relaxed lunch-time dining. Indian food, because of its variance in offerings, including textures, fragrances, spice levels and meat v. meatless dishes, lends itself ideally to a buffet offering to maximize the experience. This is the best method for trying new items, daring combinations and various sauces and condiments. I was greeted and seated immediately for lunch, soon had a full pitcher of ice water and was all set by the time my wife arrived a couple of minutes after me. I'm a chicken (and veggie) lover; she's a vegetarian. We each love spicy and intricately-flavored dishes, and this was a perfect lunch decision. Incredible variety, and I loved the table with the fascinating and varied options for sauces and spicing your dish. This was great for sampling with the buttery nann as the main dishes didn't need their flavor profile to be messed with too much. Fresh, hot, spicy and fragrant! None of the spicy dishes had too much heat. Nothing tasted greasy, oily, creamy and I also didn't taste any overwhelming notes of coconut milk, which I just personally don't enjoy. Well done, and will be back!

I've had Indian food all over St. Louis. This place is the best. Some people are saying that it's expensive but it's worth every penny. The waiters are knowledgeable and make great suggestions. I requested my paneer tikka masala "extra spicy" and he said that it wouldn't be very good like that and suggested just regular spicy instead. I went with it and he was right - extra spicy would have taken away from the flavor. It was the best dang tikka masala I've ever had. I hope this place stays around forever because I'm going to be a frequent customer. I don't write many reviews but I had to come here and write one for Mayuri because their food is seriously life changing.

This place is so disgusting it will make you loose your appetite! They're cockroaches crawling around every where AND near the food!! At first I thought my eyes were playing tricks with me when I first saw a huge light brown roach crawling near the food in the buffet, I counted 4 different ones. I actually left b/c who knows if the roaches fell in the food! The manager was beyond rude and seemed like he didn't cate. He obviously knows about this issue b/c he didn't flinch when I told him this. Me and my friend quickly bounced out. Beyond disgusting, food did look good but I didn't want to take the risk eating a roach!

I work several miles from Mayuri, but whenever my co-workers choose to go out for lunch, it''s always Mayuri that comes to mind first. Their lunch buffet is the best Indian buffet in town. They have just about everything - chicken, goat, and vegetarian main dishes...usually 5-6 choices, along with rice. There are always 5-6 side dish offerings, including daal, lentils, and soups. Of course, there is naan and other breads, including dosas at every table. Desserts include various sweets, mango lassi, gulab jamun (my favorite!), and ice cream. I have eaten myself silly at Mayuri, and have never regretted one bite!

Reading reviews of Indian restaurants on Yelp can be quite entertaining. Almost any give restaurant will have reviewers proclaiming it as the most authentic followed by another saying it's horrible. Adding to the confusion is the vast difference in quality between menu ordered food and the buffets at the same restaurant. And then there is the difference between all the regional Indian foods and spice levels with some people getting all confused when it doesn't meet their expectations. But hey, that's Yelp and the beauty of weighted averages! Just to clarify: *This review is based solely on buffet visits *Mayuri primarily features South Indian food which tends to be spicier. You know an Indian restaurant is good when a majority of its customers are Indian. I'd say that on each of my visits to Mayuri, 70 to 90 percent of the customers were Indian. The buffet at Mayuri offers one of the biggest selections of items compared to the other buffets in town. It includes a variety of curries, rices, meats, veggies, breads, desserts, and even mango lassi! A few North Indian and Indo-Chinese items are also usually offered. Be sure to come hungry because there is so much to try! On my last visit, I was especially happy to see goat curry in the offerings and pleasantly surprised that my scoop contained no bones! But don't be shocked if you try it and it's mostly bone pieces, that's just usually how it is for goat meat dishes anywhere in the world. I also especially enjoyed the lemon rice which was plate lickingly delicious with the curries! (yeah, lickingly isn't really a word). For a really authentic treat, try combining a spoon of dal powder, chili powder and corn oil and eating it on the idly or soft rice cakes. I've had the idly in different ways, but not with the spicy paste spread on top. Also be sure to try the mango lassi if you need to cool your mouth down. I tried three different desserts on my last visit, but wasn't overly impressed by any of them. One of the desserts offered was double ka meetha (think French toast soaked in syrup), but it was nowhere near as good as the 5 star stuff at St. Louis Halal Meat Shop located on Page. In my experience with Indian buffets in St. Louis, I'd say this is one of the best and most authentic. It's a solid 4 stars in my book! Hopefully someday I'll order off the menu to see how it compares.

This used to be Ruchi Indian, which was the best Indian restaurant in the St. Louis area. It was taken over by new owners recently. We decided to visit today to check it out. We went for lunch - the buffet had been rearranged and was a little smaller overall, but they still had a lot more dishes than House of India or India Palace. The food was delicious - overall it seems more authentic and a little spicier than the other buffets mentioned above. They still have mango lassi and added soft ice cream and ice cream cones to the buffet as well. They brought each of us a wonderful potato filled dosa at the table after we had visited the buffet. A nice surprise. They also seem to have added a wide variety of sauces and condiments to the buffet, including coconut sauce, peanut chutney, and about 8-10 others. Service was very friendly, prices about the same as before. Highly recommended.

I'm not sure what this place is like on a weekday, but it's a hot mess on a Saturday at lunchtime. I've always been a lover of Indian food so I could not WAIT to try their lunch buffet. We walked in and accidentally hit two people with the door it was so crowded! After putting our name on the waiting list we had to stand in a huge group of people... and I mean we were crammed in there like sardines in a can. The guy that was there taking names for the waiting list was also the one trying to ring everybody out... all in one spot. There has to be a better way! Until today I thought I was a tough girl and that I loved spicy foods, but I literally was gasping for air throughout my entire meal. Do NOT go here if you are the least bit sensitive to spices... even the dishes that aren't normally that spicy were so, so, so hot. The good thing is that my sinuses are feeling a lot better than they have been! Aside from the unnecessary spicy-ness, the food was pretty tasty. The Chicken Tikka was perfectly done and they had a wide selection of different rices to eat with it. The Chicken Tandoori was also very good. The Bagara Baingan (eggplant with spices) had a bit of an off flavor. A lot of the veggie dishes were very good, including the okra & corn dish. The best part of the meal was the end... ice cream! Not sure what the actual difference is between this and the everyday ice cream we usually eat, but it was thick, not overly sweet, and really satisfying. Not to mention much needed after burning my mouth off for a good twenty minutes. I'd go back again but only at a weird time... maybe late, late afternoon or before the lunch crowd comes in. I'll also put on my big girl pants so I can handle the food.

I had a taste for Indian tonight and this was my second choice. I found both choices on Yelp. I went to the first one and they didn't sit anyone until 530. So I thought I would wait. I left after not even being acknowledged by anyone for a good 10 minutes. At minute 11 I get the I phone out and search for Indian places and I find Mayuri. It was close to my hotel so I left. It was an awesome experience from start to finish. Soup, Naan, everything was great! I am not well versed in Indian food so it was helpful that the server could coach me through a few things. Left with a doggie bag (which I just finished off) of goodness. P.S- As I ate, several people came in for take out (Indian people). Must be authentic as well as good. Bookmarked!

I really had a pleasant dinner here. We went with our standard chicken tikka masala, which was quite good. There was a lot of sauce relative to the meat, but still plenty of meat because the serving was large. I wasn't sure what else to get, so the (very friendly, helpful, and talkative) young waiter suggested navaratan korma. Good suggestion! It had nine or so vegetables cooked in yogurt & cream. Basically, like the chicken tikka masala, but with vegetables. Both the dishes' sauces were nice and savory. We also went with Thali for sides - basically a selection of a bunch of small side dishes, for $5. Nice addition to the entrees to round out the meal. Naan bread was ordered, of course. We got one order plain, and one garlic at the server's insistence. I told him that I've had it before and the garlic was too strong. He said theirs was light, and he was right. Enough garlic for extra flavor, but no burn or overpowering smell/taste.

So I actually went to the restaurant this time, and I'll keep my rating the same. Perhaps my average rating has something to do with this being my first visit to an Indian restaurant and I can not compare it to a "norm", but here it is. Cara B. and I hit up Mayuri on a Thursday early evening. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala - mild - and she the Spinach Chicken. We also had rice pilaf and some garlic naan. If you're sensitive to spicy heat, be forewarned! There was no chili pepper icon next to the chicken tikka masala, I ordered it mild, and I still thought it had quite a bit of heat! Thank God for the raitha (which you totally should order a side of...yum! I could eat a bowl of that stuff)! With that said, I thought both the entrees offered some really great flavors. The chicken was kind of dry, but I don't know if that's pretty standard for Indian food... The garlic naan was ok. I actually had a piece of the regular naan at Festival of Nations and thought it was better there. Maybe I'm just not a huge naan fan... It's like eating a giant softer and warmer cracker. Good for sopping up sauces though. Nothing to comment on about the rice. It was...rice... Nice job. For dessert, we ordered gulab jamun, and that stuff is GOOD! The syrup is perfect, and the texture is similar to a thick pancake. Yum yum! If you hit up Mayuri, you best order those! Service was good. No complaints. Bonus points - They're in the 2011 Entertainment Book. I like saving money.

By far the best Indian buffet in Saint Louis, coming from a South Indian. Being from Hyderabad I have experienced the best of both South Indian and North Indian cuisines. Mayuri, in my opinion, gives you a good state of both. I live in the city and it is a bit of a drive to Mayuri but when I crave for real Indian food, this is my first choice. The south Indian spread consisting of dosas, idlies, vadas, punugus, pongal with sambhar, rasam, chutneys and spicy powders, alone is worth the drive and money spent. If that is not enough we have Indian style fried rice and gobi manchuria, Goan chicken fry, biryani, mirchi ka salan, goat curry, paneer butter masala etc. to satisfy your appetite for Indian food. They also have mango lassi, which I think is a great idea, considering some Indian entrees can be quite spicy. I have also had dinner here and I have not been disappointed. Their thalis are huge and even though they might seem a wee bit expensive, I must tell you the left overs have lasted 2-3 days for me! If you go for ala carte, the entree with the sides and naan are a meal for two unless you are a really heavy eater. If you have not tried this place already, give it a go. I am positive you will like it.

My fiance and I came to Mayuri for their lunch buffet one weekend. We were overwhelmed by the number of options. There were at least twice the amount of food compared to other indian buffets in the St. Louis area. The restaurant is pretty loud, and was packed this day. I tried mostly everything from the line. The byrani and the goat-curry were my favorites! These were flavorful and delicious. I was unimpressed with the butter chicken (too sweet for my palate). Over all this was a great deal for the price. I have had better quality food from an indian buffet before, but the amount of choice made up for that. There was something for everyone. They also have a soft-serve vanilla ice cream machine for dessert which was unique and delicious for cleansing the palate. I'll go back if I'm ever in the area.

My husband and I visited here for the lunch buffet just this past Monday, January 16th. We had been hoping to treat ourselves and our boys (5, 3, and 1) to the buffet at Saffron, an Indian restaurant in Des Peres, but it was closed for re-modeling. We thought we were lucky to find Mayuri not too far away and open for business. Little did we know. The interior is dark and dingy. The bathrooms are not exactly sparkling, and the baby changing table had black scuff marks all over its surface (I layered it with paper towels before putting my baby on it). We were shown to a table quickly because at 12:30, the restaurant was 2/3 empty. The server barely acknowledged us with a grunt, and did not even offer water. My husband ordered three covered cups of water for the kids, and eventually one was brought to us. My husband ended up having to fetch our own pitcher of water and glasses from the serving area. The water was barely cool, almost lukewarm. There was a decent array available at the buffet: "butter" chicken, goat curry, chicken vindaloo, fried fish nuggets, and a bone-in chicken dish were the main courses, with the vegetarian courses including plenty of dal, palak paneer, idly, etc. There was also an impressive diversity of sauces that I didn't fully explore, but that was more than adequate. I am giving an extra star for the variety, because this place would get only one otherwise. The food was acceptable. The taste was fine in general, but there was too great a ratio of sauce to meat, and worse, everything was just barely warm (which meant it was cold by the time we got it back to our table). I noticed the "butter" chicken was just scraps of chicken vindaloo cut up into a sauce. The dishes were a tad spicier than others I've tried, but this only bothered me because it made it difficult to find something my 5 and 1 year-olds would eat. Luckily, due to the aforementioned variety, plain yogurt was available as a side, and the mango lassi (which I thought was sub-par) was included in the price of the buffet, so they were able to make a meal out of these. We had to ask for the butter chicken to be re-filled, a well as the soft serve ice cream; in both cases they took their own sweet time. If it had been only my husband and myself, our meal would have been a little more pleasurable. We would have eaten quickly and left as soon as possible, having had a palatable meal. With our children and their added needs and time concerns, however, we were forced to spend twice as long as we wanted to, enduring the unpleasant atmosphere, abysmal service, and semi-decent food. They say it's a good sign when an ethnic restaurant's customer base is largely composed of that particular ethnicity, and it is true that by 1:30 the place was full, and mostly with Indians. However, this is a case where that sign of quality is simply inapplicable. Take my advice--skip this dump for Saffron: comparable prices, far better service, and excellent food!

Seriously I love this place, their rava dosa, veg mucuhri, and magno lassi was great combo. The restaurant is well decorate and kept clean, the service was great, and the waiters were very nice. I will definitely be going back when I am in the St. Louis the next time.

Food is Ok. The service is pathetic. Plain pathetic. The day I went, it was nearly full. There were just 2 people taking orders, serving food and manning the cashier. Totally unorganized and there were massive delays and messups in orders.

This place is best (and most crowded) when its the lunch all you can eat buffet. I was first taken here by a classmate who was from India and if she liked it, then I knew it had to have been good. But this time we went for dinner because it was hot, long day at work, and we were just beat!! As we are still learning what the foods are we did our best to order ala carte. Hubby had the lamb vindaloo medium with rice and I had the tandoori mixed grill medium with butter nan. And because its a weakness of mine (outside of paneer) we ordered the spinach chicken. Vindaloo was not bad, spinach chicken pretty good and had a bit of a tingle to it, mixed grill???? Ummmm not going for that again. Shrimp over cooked, chicken good, lamb pretty tasty, the other thing whatever it was (hubby said it looked like a cone shaped meatball) Feh!!! Took a lot of it home for lunch tomorrow. With just water to drink, our bill was about 42$. The servers are pretty decent albeit slow, but that owner guy is a grouch!!!! I would say if you want to eat here, DO LUNCH!!! You get more bang for less buck plus the mango lassi - ohhhhhh mango lassi :)

So, it was st.patrick's day and i had already gotten my fill of Irish food so i wanted something else to fill my tummy. One of my good friends suggested we try this place because he really liked it. Off we went on a little jaunt (since it's not close to where we live, but it was only 15 minutes away anyway). I have to say that i was a little weary when we walked in after 6:30 and it was sort of empty but we went in. I am impressed with all they did have on the menu because some of the places i have been have not had that much, plus the Indian Chinese section that they did have on the menu. The waiters were very attentive even after a while when it started to get full (which happened quickly it seemed to my suprise!). The food, it was excellent, even for someone whom isn't very good with spicy foods but i did enjoy the chicken tikka masala! (yes, i know it probably isn't the most spicy on the menu, but i'm a slight wimp when it comes to hot foods!) The naan we ordered was delicious as was the rice. I will come back when i crave some indian food!

Place is good... Having nice options for both veg and non- veg... However I noticed that they are using tofu in place of paneer and many or all dishes, so please take extra care while ordering paneer dishes...

Got a carry out. Ordered Gobi Manchurian, Nav Ratan Khorma and Naan. Manchurian was awesome, liked it very much. Khorma was average and Naan was good. Restaurant was crowded when I went, it says that it is quite popular. Will try to visit again if I am back at St. Louis.

This is a great place. They now have Dosa night on Thursday nights. For $13.99 you can get sombar soup and all you can eat Dosas. They have 20 kinds to choose from. They even have kids dosas. You do have to order them two at a time and it is self serve more or less but well worth the price. The Dosa are a little smaller but who cares. You also can have free ice cream for dessert. This is one of the few restaurants with Dosas in St Louis.

Great food. Only ever done takeout but it's always amazing. The paneer pakoda is great. Ask for extra sauce. And their chicken tikka masala is the best in town (only equal to House of India).

  • Kat V.

Warning, the food here is really spicy. Sooo spicy that even my mom who is Thai can't even handle it! This is South Indian cuisine. There were no pakoras & samosas at the buffet. They don't have regular plain tea, just chai. Although, the nice waiter made me some hot regular tea. Thanx, nameless waiter (next time if I go here, I should get his name)! If you like spicy food, take or bring some Pepto when you come here. The food itself is good, but it's something that tastes different than the usual Indian food that I've had. This is probably the second time I've had South Indian cuisine, & my tongue still singed with every bite of this food. Not everything is spicy (the naan, Idli Sambar or Upma (rice cakes), desserts & Tandoori Chicken). The masala dhosa were this largish wraps with a type of soft sour dough & vegetarian spicy filling in the middle. I was told that if you order it off the menu it's kind of crispy & comes twice the size of the buffet ones. The Idli Sambar or Upma was delish & went great with the peanut chutney. The service was great although it was a tad bit hard to get waiters due to the busy Saturday lunch hour. I came here with a bad sinus/allergy headache, & the spicy food from this place made it go away. Thanx, Mayuri!

Mayuri doesn't have the best food, their service isn't great, and their decor is dingy. My husband and I, however, used to do takeout from there every once in a while because it is near by. We are never going back there again though. We ordered butter chicken and naan for takeout last week, and it was all tasteless and cold. The butter chicken didn't look like their usual - it looked more like gloopy, stale chicken tikka masala from their buffet. We politely mentioned it to the owner the next time we were there, and he started fighting with us and creating a scene!! He wouldn't let us get a word in edgewise and kept interrupting us. It was unreal. One of his employees who was getting us our takeout started simpering and saying a dozen conciliatory things while his boss kept scowling. I couldn't stand the way he spoke to my husband. What an ill-mannered man. We are never going back there again. There are many other way better Indian restaurants in town.

I usually order take-out from this place but have gotten the lunch buffet a couple of times. One thing I disliked was a whole egg at the bottom of a to-go order of chicken masala (if I remember correctly).

This place is really a great spot for lunch or dinner. You have to get there at the right time, arrive to late and you might be overwhelmed with the people crowding the place. I recommend starting with vegetable samosas. Very tasty mixture of potato, peas, carrot in a spices wrapped up in a light dough. Served with various sauces this things are good solo too. Under the South specialties I say go for the gold and try a Dosa, yes I know you're thinking what in the world! Just do it! I mean you've already ventured out to enjoy Indian cuisine. Dosa is a rice crepe, it's unique and comes a variety of ways, as for the plain with the simple potato filling. Dal Mahkani is delish! A mixture of kidney beans and red lentils in a sweet and slightly tangy/spicy sauce. Palak Paneer another amazingly good items, creamed-style spinach and cheese (paneer), it's mild w/ a slight kick if made correctly. For the entree, Butter chicken is great don't turn the heat up it, just keep it mild. Same with Chicken Vindaloo, which is another great item! If you decided to kick up the heat I suggest a mango lassi, even if you get NO HEAT, order the mango lassi. It's refreshing and cooling to the palate. It's tasty like a yogurt style drink with a lovey fresh taste of mango. This is a great place for groups and all the items can easily be shared, so don't let your eyes see more than your bell can accommodate!

First off let me say this place serves south indian food.. for others this means that the food is spicier than the other indian restaurants.. Pros- The food here is really good... Its spicy and more authentic than some of the other indian place especially if you are looking for south indian flavors.. The number of items in the buffet is also overwhelming lot of options and also they serve hot cooked dosa(crepe stuffed with potatoes) directly to your seat. Ice cream + mango lassi ( delicious mango drink ) is also included in the buffet which is a great deal.. also on weekends they have some dessert.. Cons- Terrible service.. the servers behave as if they are doing a big deal of sacrifice by serving you.. The manager seems least interested even if you talk about something to him and does not seem to be taking any sort of interest in you or his restaurant. The nan ( bread) is not served hot instead it is kept in one of the buffet slots which makes it sad and chewy :( overall though the food is really good and spicy enough for me , maybe a bit too much for an average american.. the service kills it and i will not go there too often to be honest..

Mayuri used to be my favorite Indian spot in the area. The food was always perfect which made up for the average to poor service. We liked it so much we would often choose Mayuri for special occasions. For months now the food has become an abysmal attempt at Indian food. Tonight we ordered chicken vindaloo and chili chicken. Neither dish even resembled the flavors they were supposed to, nor appearance for that matter. The chicken vindaloo was yellow, instead of it's usual red and tasted more like a watered down generic curry. The chili chicken was dry, overcooked, and the vegetables were soggy and flavorless. To say the least, it'll be a long time until we give Mayuri another shot.

Amazing and very tasty food. One of the best buffets for an Indian restaurant. The flavors are from Andhra Pradesh state in India but the mix of North Indian dishes were excellent at the same time. You can get a Dosa, Mango Lassi and wide range of both Vegetarian and Non vegetarian food with the buffet. That's a steal if you ask me. I have lived in big cities and had indian food through out the US and for the price and quality of food you can't get a better deal.

I'm beginning to get an inkling here - and I don't mean that the front of my pants feel all warm and wet. Maybe, just maybe, there is a difference in service between buffet and a la carte. I went on a non-buffet shift. I found the service to be prompt and friendly. Not black-tie-five-star service, just good attentive, friendly neighborhood Indian restaurant service. Mas agua, por favor! To those before me who've pointed out that even the typically non-flaming dishes have some zing, I'll append a double amen. The samosas, not usually a two ice water minimum, were pretty zippy. Delicious, but not for those of meek palate. And when you ask for spicy, they deliver. I should note that I pretty much always ask for spicy. Why? Because spicy has become Americanized. Restaurants around here seem to have adapted to our timid, ice-cold-so-ya-can't-taste the-cr@p-in-my-mass-produced beer tolerances. Don't ask for spicy, unless you REALLY mean it. Nevertheless, I found the flavors and textures quite nice, and nothing was ever totally overwhelmed by the heat. Although, at a certain point, after consuming so much capsaicin, I wonder if my taste buds weren't wandering off somewhere with Carlos Castenada and Don Juan, merely hallucinating their enjoyment. Eh, who cares? As long as they were sending staccato signals of enjoyment, what's the dif? I'll hafta try the buffet and report back. Over and out.

I've been to Mayuri a couple times for lunch with friends and I'm still undecided how I feel about the place overall. The lunch buffet is good and the vegetarian options are clearly marked which is always a plus. I'm always a little thrown off by the large man, I'm guessing he's a manager, speaking a tad too sternly to his employees from across the restaurant. "Pour more water there! Pick up that plate here! More napkins over at that table" It's made my visits a little uncomfortable. He's also the same one who normally checks you out at the register after your meal so talk about intimidating. I wouldn't say the place has a bad/mean vibe, but it could use a little more professionalism and kindness in general. Also, the wine selection leaves much to be desired. I've ordered a glass of their "premium" sav blanc and swear I ended up with the house version of something else white. All in all, I'd probably go back, but it's not a top choice for me when it comes to good Indian in St. Louis.

So this was my second time eating Indian food and I just came back from lunch at Mayuri. It was good. If you want something spicy this is the place to go. You walk in and the smell of spice just hits you. The staff was very nice. I had the Chinese chili chicken and it was delicious. Its a little dark in the restaurant but I'm not taking off for that. I would give it a 5 but I think Indian food upsets my stomach. lol I would go back again. I really enjoyed the "Don't waste food" signs. It made me get less. I did not waste much. I wasted the mango lassi. I didn't get much I just wanted to try it and it wasn't for me. Great restaurant.

I remember visiting this place a while back, when it was under different ownership (and I think it was called Ruchi?). The food was decent then, but it was REALLY good tonight! Went with some friends around 8pm, and the place was hoppin! I always see that as a good sign. All of these people can't be wrong! And there were lots of Indian folks there, which I also see as a really good sign. Anyway, service was nice and efficient, despite the crowd. Our waiter was quick and always kept our water refilled. For food, I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo: curried chicken with potatoes. Yum! This is one of my favorite Indian dishes. I requested it to be made VERY spicy, and the guys in the kitchen sure did listen to me! It was EXTREMELY spicy, but I loved every bite. Mmm. I don't know how else to describe my meal other than absolutely fantastic. The price was decent for my food. My total came to only about 12 bucks, and I had plenty to take home for leftovers. I don't know how often I'll come out here since it's sort of far from where I live, but next time I'm in the area, I'll be sure to stop by. I can't wait to try their buffet next time!

We got no service whatsoever during our meal. We didn't even get a dish we had paid for. When we complained to the manager, he said he would do something to make it up to us and we should wait. So we waited and waited and waited. After about ten minutes, the manager came back and said the owner had overruled him and wouldn't let him do anything for us. We left upset at the way we had been treated and disrespected, and disappointed by the owner's lack of judgment. How very penny-wise and pound-foolish of him! We had been planning to bring our extended family there the following week as part of a family reunion. Of course, we took our business elsewhere.

Come here for the food. Sambar, biryani, aloo palak... Buffet's split into veg & meat sections. Try the self-serve mango lassi next to the condiment bar. It helps manage spiciness if you're not used to it. Food is full-flavored and well prepared. Excellent.

I used to like their food..went a couple of months back and was very disappointed. The only thing good on the menu is the biryani. The buffet has a lot of variety but really bad quality. One of the worst Indian restaurants in st.Louis

We just recently moved to the area and were trying the number of different Indian restaurants St. Louis had to offer. This is third place I've been to and can honestly say this is probably the worst I've ever eaten. The Indian food in El Paso, TX was far better (and that was a place I'd never take my parents). Do yourself a favor and try Flavor of India located right down the road, its pretty good. Mayuri gets two stars bc the tandoori chicken was the only item that was worth eating. Chicken Tikka Masala was horrible (unsure how you mess that up)

Ok Indian Buffett Lots of choices. The dishes could be a little hotter spicy wise. A lot of staple dishes I like the veggie and chicken dishes. This place also has goat on the Buffett. Be sure and ask for the free dosa, they use to Bring it out automatically now you have to ask for it, I guess some people were wasting the food. Love the dosa!!

Mayuri was, at one time, my favorite Indian spot in town. South Indian food seems to be a lost art in St. Louis, where most of our Indian restaurants seem focused on British-style curries (and some of them do it very, very well). Unfortunately, Mayuri has become a victim of it's own success. Food has taken a nosedive, and the service - always brusk, never pleasant - has sealed the deal for me. I can't give Mayuri another chance unless there's a big change in management style. Mayuri's food is, as a whole, quite good in theory. They tend to focus on vegetarian dishes, as many of their patrons don't touch the meat dishes. Hey, more for us carnivores, eh? Most of their meat dishes must be butchered in-house, because on my recent two visits, the ratio of gristle and inedible trim to edible lean was particularly high. While I don't ever have a problem with meat-on-the-bone, a curry with 90% inedible bits of chicken gristle isn't appetizing. The big problem here is service. It's become sexist, classist, and racist. Quite frankly, if you're a woman, don't expect good service. The owner/manager is extremely unfriendly and loves to order around his staff. Most of the Indian wait staff are the same way, and won't even speak to or make eye contact with females at a table - major fail. The men at the table will be asked every question, no mind paid to any females speaking at the same time - and with Indian patrons, they tend to be even more sexist and classist. For example, the man at one table was handed the silverware for the entire table; at one dinner visit, only the men at the table were handed menus. On my last visit, our table never once saw a server other than to drop off a dirty jug of drinking water that had been sitting on another table. The last straw was my observing of the manager's treatment of his staff. They have several Latino bussers who keep this place moving; they put up with a remarkable amount of verbal abuse. You'll see the manager standing over a dropped napkin snapping his fingers and loudly yelling "AMIGO! AMIGO!" while pointing at it, waiting for one of his subordinates to come pick it up. These hard-working men are shown appreciation for their efforts by being ordered around - in the public dining room - and the "amigo" thing seems wholly inappropriate. In summary: the food's taken a dive, but so has the service - in ways that are not forgivable. Unless the manager/owner/whatever cleans up his act, trains his staff on how to treat others with respect, equally, then I'm not interested in trying this place again.

Arrived in St. Louis later in the evening than planned. Desperately hungry and not at all in the mood for drive-thru, I pulled out the mobile, consulted Yelp and found Mayuri. Phoned first to verify they would still be able to serve me. The guy said they closed at ten and would accept orders until 9:45. I arrived at 9:50 and was expecting them to tell me to go pound sand. Instead I was pleasantly greeted and after a briefly skimming the menu, I explained to the waiter I just wanted something to go, preferably with chicken and spicy. He suggested the Chicken Chatpat which is spicy and somewhat sour with lemon juice. Good Recommendation. I ordered it with rice and some naan. Dude was not lying about it being spicy. I was sweating and in tears and loved every bite. Overall friendly place with excellent food. Would live to try the buffet if I return any time soon.

If you can't make it to any other Indian place, I guess you'll have to suffer the bad service, mediocre food, and cold atmosphere, but don't say you weren't warned! I have been to this establishment twice, and each time I arrived hopeful, and left heavy hearted. I try to make dining out a rare thing so when I've wasted a meal out at a restaurant like this I tend to remember it! The first time I went was with friends and we were all having a multiple course meal, the food was ok, but they crammed us into a table too small for our party and this is despite the entire place being deserted (which it was both times, I should have recognized that as a sign!). The second time, I went with my girlfriend and even though the place was empty we stood unattended for several minutes before being shown a table, it took us ages to get service once seated, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was because we were clearly a 'girl/girl couple', because a couple that walked in after us (again, it was a deserted place, I rarely notice things like this!) was paid every attention, had a friendly rapport with the server, and had their food a good half hour before we did. I don't send food back, especially not food I've waited nearly an hour for, this time I came close. The paneer was burned, at least I assume it was the paneer that gave the entire dish (palak paneer) a 'charred' flavor. I'd asked for it pretty spicy so maybe the huge chunks of pepper were what was burned, either way, I ate enough to not appear rude, and the rest was tossed as soon as we got home. I absolutely love Indian food, and who knows, maybe this place has a buffet that's out of this world, I just know I'll never go back and order off the menu, I can spend less money elsewhere for burned food and bad service!

I'm extremely glad that Ruchi is no longer; I never cared for Ruchi. This place blows it away. There really is no comparison. The food is very good. My favorite is House of India and this is pretty close to the same level of quality and taste. For those that can't take the heat (not that I am one of them :-) ), they will prepare your food in a mild form instead of spicy hot. I will definitely come back to this place.

Mayuri serves a reasonable variety of North and South Indian cuisine in all its greasy glory. The lunch buffets have a tremendous variety, but I think ala carte has better quality. I have eaten there quite a few times and the food is always well cooked. I especially love the "chutneys" they serve if you order South Indian snacks like "dosas" and "idlis". The only drawback of Mayuri is the ambiance and service which is quite similar to the chaos of a "bazaar" in India and looks out of place in a dine-in, air conditioned restaurant in a US suburb. A popular choice for catering, Mayuri is a good place to take your non-Indian friends, provided they can stomach the grubbiness of the place and the greasiness of the food.

I've eaten here plenty of times for lunch but today I decided to go for dinner but little did I know that the buffet is only during lunch so ordered take out instead. I orderd the chicken tikka masala. The food was amazing like always but not the price! The guy asked me what type of bread I wanted & I said Naan..I get my food & pay & it was $13.85....well guess what it doesn't come w/rice so I go back in & he tells me u either get bread or rice & I said "oh when u asked me what kind of bread I wanted I asumed that the entree came w/rice since there are three diff types of bread. Nope not the case, had to pay $2.14 for a side of rice. I suggest sticking w/only doing their buffet its only $9.99 & u can try everything. But their food is pretty good!

Time 2.15pm on a lazy Sunday noon. I planned to eat something good along with my family and walked into this place. First sight it looked empty and staff seems to be in hurry to close out the buffet already. Buffet has good number of dishes and almost gave me vibe of positive appetite until I took a bite at 'idli' - an appetizer, cold dry and stinking. Well I thought it could be stale as the buffet almost ready to be closing out. I moved on to bread naan and couple of chicken curries which were competing to go first in to garbage instead of satisfying my appetite. With a huge disappointment I helped myself with Biryani and boy what a disgrace to name it so, utter stale rice with undercooked chicken meat. Here's the kicker -- a thick black hair staring out from colored rice saying - PICK ME. Without further thought I rushed myself to restroom, in fact to force food out and then wanting to take to it the attention of manager on- site to explain what I just saw. But I realized the manager already sensed something was wrong on my table and pretended to walk to other guests and was in conversation ignoring us. With no question on our minds we walked out paying our bill which surprisingly had no tip column on it. My wife added to a feed back later that the softee ice cream tasted like crush ice with a dash of sugar minus flavor. The only good thing we could remember from that place is Mango lassi - a concoction out of yoghurt and mango flavor. Coming from the east coast american town where Indian restaurants give a cut throat competition to each other yet offering good quality food , this restaurant is a disgrace in terms of taste & tidyness. Avoid if u can (* YMMV)

I had the most horrible scary experience at this restaurant to the point where we worried about our safety. Please do not go here. The owner kept yelling at us saying that we were taking too much space (we were taking up three extra chairs because that's how they seated us in the first place). Also, the room was half empty anyway so it wasn't like we were holding up others or anything. Even if we were wrong, they could have asked us without being violent. The owner got so violent without any provocation that we seriously feared for our safety and we were ready to call the cops on him until his co owner dragged him away. The kids in our party were terrified. This place is the worst Indian restaurant that I've ever experienced. In addition to that, their food is average, their dosa has no stuffing, and their chicken items are obviously old. Eat at your own risk!
